Ted Andress

Ted Andress is a 33-year veteran of the Ontario Provincial Police. He starting his policing career at the age of 19 as a Police Cadet and was posted to the Pembroke Detachment of the O.P.P.

During his tenure at Pembroke, both as a cadet and a Provincial Constable, he was exposed to a wide variety of police experience from general law enforcement duties, traffic, marine duties, community services and court officer duties, including serving fourteen years as a breathalyzer technician.

In 1984 he was promoted to the rank of Corporal and posted to the Bracebridge Detachment. There he performed the duties of a shift supervisor in one of the busiest detachments within the O.P.P. In 1987 he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant and was posted to Little Current Detachment on Manitoulin Island. Here he was responsible for the operations and administration of Little Current Detachment.

Mr. Andress also performed the role as a Staff Sergeant overseeing the management of three other O.P.P. Detachments on the island. During the period of September 1990 to March 1991, he was Acting Inspector at No. 13 District Headquarters in Sudbury where he performed the duties of a Field Inspector including Incident Commander.

In March of 1991 he was promoted to the rank of Inspector receiving a Queen’s Commission and transferred to No. 12 District Headquarters in North Bay as second in command. In October 1994 he held the rank of Acting Superintendent, District Commander of No. 12 District. He was responsible for the overall operations and administration of the twelve O.P.P. Detachments in the District. In April of 1996 he was promoted to the rank of Superintendent as Regional Director of operations for the North East Region of the O.P.P. until his retirement in December 1998.

Ted Andress’ education includes being a graduate of the Ontario Police College and the Ontario Provincial Police Academy. He has attended courses at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education in Toronto, Brock University, St. Catherines, Royal Canadian Staff Officer Military College, Kingston, Canadian Police College, Ottawa and the Canadian Emergency Preparedness College in Arnpior. He is a life member of the Ontario association of Chiefs of Police and has held the position of chairperson of the Advisory Committee, for the Law and Security Program at Candore College in North Bay.

In giving back to education Mr. Andress, from 2001 to2006 held the position of Professor for the Police Foundations and Law & Security Administration Programs at St. Lawrence College, Brockville, Ontario. He has taught a wide variety of police related subjects at the college and was voted teacher of the year 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 by the student body.
